The village earned the attribute of "gold buttoned" because of its mines where gold and silvers has been mined for several centuries. King Charles Robert estimated as royal mining site fixing its boundaries. His descendant King Lajos the Great gave independent royal township privilege to "Tulukbánya". But the miner town has flourished under the rule of King Sigismund.
After a bump of the 17th century, the economic importance of the community has more and more decreased. Hungary's first earthenware manufacture which made the famous vessels of Telkibánya now functions as museum.
